University of Lynchburg Women's Lacrosse Midseason Check-In
During the 2024-2025 school year, the University of Lynchburg Women’s Lacrosse team is led by head coach McKenzie Rafferty and assistant coach Micah Slacum. Ranking 5th in both the 2023-2024 and the 2024-2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, the Lynchburg Women’s Lacrosse team has high hopes for this season. The team currently holds 5 wins and 2 losses, with a winning percentage of .714, as well as a three game winning streak as they prepare to play their next game against Ferrum College on March 18 and work to continue their winning streak.
As the team continues their season, Gabby Strano, a sophomore midfielder, made the comment that as they reach the midpoint of their season, she feels that the team's biggest challenge has been their mindsets. She revealed that sometimes the team goes into harder games already given up, and it results in the team not being able to play at their best. She also feels that sometimes the team plays down to other teams levels, and end up getting surprised when they are in close games with teams they should not necessarily be close with. This being one of the team's main challenges, they have started mental exercises designed to help with the team's mental toughness and finding ways to catch negative thoughts before they affect player performances during the game. Carmen Nicolás, a junior defensive player, also agreed that so far the team has had a rough start, and believes that at first the team had a harder team learning to play together, but are now making more progress towards working together to earn victories. So far throughout this season, Alexis Polly, a sophomore defensive player, feels that their best game so far has been against Washington & Lee University, and although they lost to the Generals, Lynchburg worked and played well together.
As the team reaches the midpoint of their season, it is clear that the team still has challenges to overcome, but are taking effective steps to move past these challenges and achieve their goals for the season. Their next game is against Ferrum College on Mar 18 on Shellenberger Field, where the team will continue to compete and begin to move through the second half of their season.
